Bike and Barge Adventure in Holland, April, 2010

Day One: Get Ready, and Go

Time to go, but of course I'm in the cabin, on the computer.

Leah is ready.

I am ready too.

Our audience watches the final preparations.

Ready, set, go!

First stop, just a short ride away, a windmill tour.

Waiting at a light.

Arriving at the windmill.

Police station across the river.

The windmill we will tour was once a corn mill.

An educational video.

And our tour guide.

The windmill was used to drag ships up for repair.

An old mill stone.

The geology of the low countries.

Windmill building tools.

That domed building is a jail.

After leaving, a few more pictures while riding.

Our first breakdown!

Sympathetic passers-bye.

On the path again.

The boy who stuck his finger in the dike and saved the town.

Our leaders discuss our next moves.

Snack time!

Our hosts.

Leah spotted some volunteer pansies.

We cruise by the new IKEA.

One of many fine roosters.

One of many fine houseboat homes.

One of many fine windmills.

Some of the many fine goats.

A couple of fine llamas and a donkey.

The donkey was a show-off.

A fine stork.

Fifteen miles after leaving the barge in Haarlem, we rejoin it somewhere in the countryside.
