Obama Inauguration, January, 2013

Getting The Tickets, Visiting the Museum

Maura and I line up at Longworth Office Building, the wait to go through
security is minimal. In 2009, everyone picked up their tickets the day before
the inauguration - it was a mad house.
This time, congress people had pick-up hours designated Thurs-Sun.

Representative Wenstrup was just elected for his first term.
DPM = Doctor of Podiatric Medicine.

Greg Brooks, Legislative Correspondent, provides the tickets.
Greg is from Centerville OH and is the only Wenstrup office
staffer without previous 'Hill experience'.
He was super-nice and called me back at the end of the day
to provide two additional Green West tickets from 'no-shows'.

Library of Congress

The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir rehearses.
They were pretty fabulous, Sunday and Monday.

This is the Green West area - direct view to the swearing-in podium,
right behind the VIP chairs. How lucky are we???

The National Museum of the American Indian is having a festival
- Out of Many: A Multicultural Festival of Music, Dance and Story.
This is Alma Boliviana - Bolivian dance troupe.

Halau Ho'omau I Ka Wai Ola O Hawai'i - Native Hawaiian dance

KanKouran West African Dance Company - African dance

Flory Jagoda Trio (Flory in middle) - Sefardic music

Imamsuat Sugpiaq Dance Group - Alaska Native dance

Special Exhibit of Six Indian Chiefs invited to Teddy Roosevelt's inauguration.
The Chiefs hoped to use this opportunity to negotiate
or present their concerns to the President.
Roosevelt was not on board with this, and reportedly stated that the chiefs were invited to participate in the inauguration 'to give the people a good show'.
Our country certainly has a complicated history.

Wild Zappers - Deaf dance ensemble (they were incredible).

Greg calls for me to come and pick up more tickets...
back to Longworth and entered by a different door... passing by this spot.
