Let's think about the meaning, use, and effect of words. Words are symbols. We use words to try to describe and organize feelings and intententions. We also use words to track and share memories and intuitions, which we also call (in words) call knowledge and thought. As symbols, words are available to deceit. Whether used truely or not, however, words are laden with more or less generally agreed meaning, and then each of us adds our own spin to the meaning we take from the words we encounter. For most people, encountering words is what we do most of the time! Some of us read or write or listen or speak for a living. We live immersed in a sea of words, not the least part of which are the constant internal dialogs that seem to accrue in humans, so we live in a world dominated by our word symbols. The most adept of us can weave webs of words so strong we rise to lead companies, colleges, and countries. This requires a facility that is some part intelligence, but is some larger part empathetic and attractive, where intelligence is not a factor.
