Part 2, The Classroom Training

I decided to try to get an earlier class date for the motorcycle training course.

Back in April I signed up for the first available time left at that time, course L-34 July 26 Wed. 6-10pm July 29 and 30; 1:30 – 7pm., but I was told at that time I could try to get into an earlier course (because they often have "no-shows" on the classroom night), as soon as I got my temporary permit.

I went to Live Oaks on a Tuesday evening at 6:00 and found myself the last to arrive of eight hopefuls vying for four open seats in the current class (L-30 July 11 Tues. 6-10pm July 15 and 22; 1:30 – 7pm). The instructors ran a lottery for the spaces and my number was picked second, so I was among the 24 people who got to take the course that night.

The class was great. Lots of fast-paced audience participation, many videos, plenty of breaks, and as if that weren’t enough, a major deluge accompanied by tornado sirens. We were in a fairly sturdy structure and had no other place to go, so we just stayed in the class and got through the material.

My "riding" segments with my half of the initial class are the next two Saturdays, from 12:30 until we’re done. They supply motorcycles and helmets for everyone. We’re evenly split by gender and by experience, but I’m the only one who gave mid-life crisis as my reason for taking the class.
